More Than a Game: How Veritex Community Bank’s Golf Ambassadors Embody Our Values

Nike, Rolex, NetJets, TaylorMade, and Veritex Community Bank. Four of the five are global companies, and the link between all of them is that each shares visibility as a sponsor of the No. 1 golfer in the world, Scottie Scheffler. We’re grateful to be the only Texas-based company on that list and to share a bit more about why we sponsor golfers across the spectrum of professional Tours.

Our goal when we partnered with Scottie in 2018 was the same as it is with any person or business that banks with us, to grow a relationship together. The fact that he’s won two Masters Tournaments and had as much success as any modern player in history since we formed a partnership is simply an outcome. Scottie is one of 28 golf ambassadors who helps define our values through the game of golf.

How we select #TeamVeritex to represent us is a pretty simple formula; we partner with individuals who are better people than they are golfers. The formation of our relationship begins early. We get to know them, and they get to know us, by supporting junior programs through the Texas Golf Association and both the Northern and Southern Sections of the PGA of America.

While most of their work may crisscross the country (and even the globe), our Golf Ambassadors’ roots remain grounded locally. Each player connects with our Texas communities in the same way as our bankers, they’ve grown up, gone to school, and/or live here. They’re your neighbor and share our same interests from sports teams to charitable endeavors.

As you can see, for us, our support of #TeamVeritex Golf Ambassadors is about the journey. We seek to provide a forum for development to begin a relationship, find commonality through community, and, ultimately, engage to support players professionally. Not all journeys produce the same outcome as Scottie’s. In fact, we take equal pride in supporting those that better resemble Max McGreevy’s.

Max started on the Korn Ferry Tour (developmental stage) at the same time as Scottie, it took him longer to earn his place on the PGA Tour, and then he didn’t do well enough to keep it. He went backward, only to refocus, and earn his way back for a second chance on the PGA Tour. We understand that ups and downs happen professionally, and we’re bullish on Max and the renewed opportunity in front of him.

Veritex Bank Pro-Am

The game of golf is a mechanism for us to define our values. Our #TeamVeritex Golf Ambassadors allow us to do it through their values, connection to community, and journey stories. You will find truth, transparency, and integrity embedded throughout. So, the next time you see Scottie raising a trophy on a global stage, we hope you think of the local company that ties it all back to Texas and a foundational relationship that started it all.
